The mission of the National Historic Cheesemaking Center is to preserve the cheesemaking history that made Green County, Wisconsin, a national leader in the development of the cheese industry in the United States. The focus is to record the early history of cheesemaking in the country with regard to the early self-consumption kitchen dairy, the family or farmstead factories, co-ops, and the large scale factories of today.
We honor and recognize the importance of the dairy farmer, cheesemakers and all other phases of the industry including milk hauling, production advances, warehousing, shipping/distribution and marketing. We strive to create a library of complete and accurate information on the last 160 years of the cheese industry. Lastly, by employing modern technology and rotating exhibits, the Center has become a popular source for education and entertainment of all ages.
