National Historic Cheesemaking Center -- Mission

National Historic Cheesemakers Mission, Goals and Objectives

THE MISSION OF THE NATIONAL HISTORIC CHEESEMAKING CENTER
For many years, a group of dedicated individuals had a dream.....to preserve the cheese making history that helped make the Green County area famous. If the heritage is lost, it will be gone forever. The focus is to recognize the importance of the dairy farmers, cheesemakers and all other phases of the industry - from milk hauling to warehousing to shipping and marketing.

The National Historic Cheesemaking Center was formed to record the early cheesemaking history in this country, from the early home dairy through the small family or cooperative factories to the large scale factories of today.
We no longer have the first generation cheesemakers, but the second, third and fourth generation makers.  We propose to function not just as a museum, but as a library and source of accurate and complete information on this early industry.  By using modern computer technology, and periodically rotating exhibits, the Center has become a popular source of education and entertainment for all ages.

The National Historic Cheesemaking Museum is cataloged within the PastPerfect software program, which enables visitors to research for items, photos and archival items that may be pertinent to ones family history.
