MTG Dog Walkers Needed for Fall!

MTG's ongoing "fundraising" project with The Swiss Colony is in need of some more dog walkers at the Green County Humane Society for the the fall months. Our commitment is to provide a minimum of two people every Tuesday night to walk dogs and help with other general chores at the humane society. This is a low-commitment way to really help Monroe Theatre Guild AND the Humane Society AT THE SAME TIME. Swiss Colony gives us a very generous yearly donation in exchange for this service. Dog walking hours are 5-7 PM on Tuesdays. You can commit to one date or all of them!
If you can lend us a hand for this good cause, please contact Nadine Whiteman at (608) 293 -0928 or e-mail Nadine.Whiteman@monroe.k12.wi.us .

Dog walkers needed for the following dates:
September 7, 14, 21, 28
October 5, 12, 19, 26
November 2, 9, 16, 23, 30

A BIG Thank you all of the spring and summer dog walkers. Especially Rita Ostrowski who helped out nearly EVERY week for many months!

(and not a marketing mantra), and long before "foodie tourism" was a buzzword term, the people of Green County created a festival based on local cheese. More than 3,000 visitors traveled by train, and horse
and carriage to attend the first festival. Today's attendance at this every-other-year event is estimated at more than 150,000 - including regional, national, and international visitors.

Squeezebox Night

Turner Hall - Rathskeller

9/21, 10/19 and 11/16

Join in on the family fun at Turner Hall's Squeezebox Night!
Dust off that old accordion or button box that's been sitting in the attic for years and bring it to the Turner Hall's Ratskeller every third Tuesday evening of the month!

Squeeze Box Night, an informal monthly jam session, was introduced in May 2007 by Turner Hall's Swiss Heritage Series as part of an on-going schedule of programs and events that feature Swiss traditions and folk culture. Intended for all ability levels and all types of accordion-like instruments, local accordionist Del Heins is on hand to lead the playing and even offer helpful tips and advice for those who perhaps haven't touched an instrument in years.
Turner Hall of Monroe felt the time was right to offer people a chance to re-acquaint themselves with the instrument in a fun and non-threatening way, as well as offering veteran players a chance to come together and play. The Ratskeller Restaurant's menu offers a wide variety of fare for those enjoying a great family fun evening out! Join us for Squeezebox Night Tonight!

Secondary Cause of Death

Mighty Richland Players

10/1, 10/2, 10/3, 10/8, 10/9 and 10/10

(Oct. 1-3 and Oct. 8-10, 2010)

Synopsis: Part two of a trilogy, Secondary Cause of Death is a Dessert Theater offering that follows Peter Gordon's hit comedy thriller Murdered to Death, performed to sold-out crowds by the MRPDT in Sept., 2009.

Set in 1939, this hilarious comedy involves exploding teapots and cigars, poisoned drinks, German spies, secret agents, and a multitude of murder weapons. The storyline sees Colonel Charles Craddock inherit Bagshot House and convert the property into a hotel for the discerning visitor. Inspector Pratt arrives with grim news, a staged murder mystery evening turns into a chaotic nightmare, and bodies pile up as the tale winds to a surprise ending. If you didn't catch Murdered to Death, don't worry -- you'll still be able to enjoy and appreciate this wonderful, quirky British humor!

GC Garden Club Meeting

Green County Garden Club Monthly Meeting

10/7 and 11/4

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 2, 6:30 PM - Savanna Springs Prairie Tour

We've all seen a dry prairie - there are many around Green County. Now you have a chance to see a wet prairie. David Wisnefske, the owner and prairie restorer, hopes to be there to interpret for us and we will have an opportunity to walk the trails. There is also a dry prairie nearby.

This is from the Savannah Springs website,"A large spring, the site of a trading post between the French and the Indians in the 1740's, is now the home of Savanna Springs Trout Farm where hundreds of lunker Brown, Rainbow, and Brook Trout are now found. Numerous endangered and threatened or rare species have been found to be native or introduced to Savanna Springs including Three Birds Orchid, Giant Yellow Hysop, Glade Mallow, Wild Quinine, Marbleseed, Hill's Thistle, Tuberous Indian Plantain, Green's Milkweed, Showy Orchid, Prairie Turnip, Wild Petunia, Rough White Lettuce, Butternut, Prairie Phlox, Pale Pink Coneflower, Cream Gentians and Red Tailed Prairie Leaf hopper. We think we have the State Record Red Oak and Silver Poplar as well as several of the
largest Bur Oaks in Wisconsin."

Directions to the prairie:
West on County Highway C, going about 13 miles west from Monticello. You will cross County M, and take Rat Hollow Road, which is about a mile further, on your left. You'll go for about a mile, down a hill. The road will make a sharp right and the prairie is right beyond it. Park along the road, but be sure to pull off as much as possible. After seeing the prairie you are invited back to Sarah and David Aslakson's home where we'll have a treat and something to drink on the south patio behind their house. Directions: Retrace your path from Rat Hollow Road, turning right, back onto County C, heading toward Monticello. About 2 miles East on C you will reach County M. Staying on County C, take the first gravel road on your right - there are two address signs and one mailbox. The address is W8565 County Road C. Go through the field (1/4 mile) and through the woods (1/4 mile), keeping to the left where the road forks in the woods. Park along the road when you come to the house and go around to the back of the house.

11/26, 11/27 and 11/28

Join the Mighty Richland Players for a night of fun as we preform the Jester, the Body, Ventures Forth
Nov. 26-28, 2010. The Mighty Richland Players have offered a combination dinner and theatrical performance at the Orangeville, Illinois, Masonic Lodge/IOOF Hall since 2001.
Enjoy another warped Madrigal by Paul Brandvik in a dinner theater setting. This tale begins with a Jester announcing the upcoming visit of Good King Wence from the Kingdom of Jibber and his two daughters (Good King Wence's lasses). The king aims to arrange marriages for the girls, thereby uniting two kingdoms.

The Jester and Sir Merton, the only eligible bachelors in the kingdom, both fancy Olivia the fair, but Gorgonzola.org must marry first. Consequently, the hapless bachelors must duel for the hand of Gorgonzola.org while hoping to lose so they can win Olivia instead.
